MEN'S INVITATION PAIRS - PETER WHALE and SIMON TOOLEY (WALKOVER)

MEN'S DRAWN PAIRS FINAL - CHRIS GARDNER & PETER WHALE 24 vs. JOHN WALTERS & SIMON TOOLEY 23

In the Men's Drawn Pairs Final Chris Gardner and Peter Whale got off to the better start and were 11 - 2 up against John Walters and Simon Tooley after six ends. With each pair winning three of the next six ends Gardner and Whale still held the advantage 15 - 8. Walters and Tooley then won the next three ends to trail by only three shots. Walters and Tooley then scored a six to take the lead for the first time in the game, they then took a two on the next end to lead 20 - 15. Gardner and Whale responded with a six and a two to retake the lead 23 - 20. Walters and Tooley then won the next two ends to tie the match at 23 all after 21 ends. In a tense extra end Walters and Tooley were holding three shots and with both hands blocked for the draw Whale managed to knock a short bowl in for shot. Tooley then fired with his last bowl but narrowly missed the shot bowl leaving Gardner and Whale holding the shot to secure the victory 24 - 23.

COLE PORTER PLATE - SIMON TOOLEY 21 vs. MARK HOULT 18

The Cole Porter Plate is a Men's Singles competition open to any man who has not won a club four wood singles competition in the last ten years. Mark Hoult was 8 - 3 ahead after eight ends against Simon Tooley. Hoult continued to pull away and after 14 ends had increased his advantage and was winning 14 - 5. Tooley then gradually chipped away at Hoult's lead and had levelled the score after 20 ends. Two ends later the match was still all square at 18 - 18. Tooley then won the next two ends to take the game 21 - 18

LADIES 100 UP - ROSEMARY MANNING 104 vs. PAT FISHER 76

In the Ladies 100 up The shot bowl scores four points, the second bowl three points the third two points and the fourth one point.

The first eleven ends were close with Pat Fisher leading Rosemary Manning 56 - 54. Manning then scored two nines to lead 72 - 58. Manning then steadily built up her score over the next five ends to take the title 104 - 76.

MEN'S TWO WOOD SINGLES - NORMAN BURWELL vs. 17 PETER WHALE 12

After eight ends of the Men's Two Wood Singles Peter Whale was 7 - 4 up against Norman Burwell. Burwell then took the next three ends to lead 9 - 7. Whale then won the next two ends to retake the lead 10 - 9. Burwell took the next three ends to open up a three shot lead but a two on the seventeenth end saw Whale close the gap to just one shot. Burwell then scored two twos to take the game out of Whale's reach, Burwell winning 17 - 12.

LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES - LIS CAMPLING 23 vs. ROSEMARY MANNING 18

In the Ladies Championship Singles Rosemary Manning led Lis Campling 4 - 1 after five ends, however after eight ends the scores were level at six all. Manning then took the next three ends only for Campling to level the scores again at ten all after 12 ends. After 17 ends the contestants could still not be separated with the score now at 13 each. Campling then won the next four ends to open up a six shot lead. Manning fought back taking three of the next four ends to trail by two shots. Campling then took the title with a three on the last end to win 23 - 18.

CHICHESTER SINGLES - MARK HOULT 21 vs. STUART MEYER 17

The Chichester singles is a competition open to men and women and this year's final saw Mark Hoult (in his first full season) take on Stuart Meyer. Hoult got off to the better start and led 7 - 3 after six ends. Meyer fought back but could not quite close the gap and trailed 9 - 11 after 13 ends. Each player then won five of the next ten ends putting Hoult 20 - 13 ahead. Meyer then took the next three ends before Hoult secured the single he needed for the match, winning 21 - 17.

MEN'S SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP – SIMON TOOLEY 21 vs. PETER WHALE 19

Two old rivals, Simon Tooley and Peter Whale, contested the Men's Singles Championship final. The first seven ends were close with Tooley holding a two shot lead. Whale then won two of the next three ends to level the score at eight all. Whale then picked up a four and a two to open up a six shot advantage. Tooley responded by taking four of the next five ends to go 19 - 15 up. Whale won the next two ends to level the match again, but with two singles over the next two ends Tooley took the Championship 21 - 19.

LADIES TWO WOOD SINGLES - MARILYN BURWELL 13 vs. LIS CAMPLING 12

After eight ends of the Ladies Two Wood Singles Marilyn Burwell was 7 - 2 up against Lis Campling. Campling won the next two ends to reduce the gap to two shots only to see Burwell score two singles to lead 9 - 5 after 12 ends. Campling then took the next three ends to trail by only one shot. Each player then won three of the last six ends but Burwell held her advantage to win 13 - 12.

MENS VETERANS SINGLES – TONY SAYERS 22 vs. STUART MEYER 11

After 11 ends of the Mens Veterans Singles defending champion Tony Sayers had opened up a six shot lead over Stuart Meyer. Meyer then won two of the next three ends to trail by just two shots, however, Sayers then took four of the next five ends to retain his title 22 - 11.

MENS HANDICAP SINGLES – SIMON TOOLEY 21 vs. GARY MILLER 14

Simon Tooley (in his first of five finals) and Gary Miller were both off the same handicap in the Men's Handicap Singles. Tooley got off to the better start and was 3 - 1 up after four ends, but Miller won the next two ends to take a 5 - 3 lead. Tooley then took the next three ends to take a seven shot advantage. Miller fought back over the next five ends to reduce the deficit to two shots, but Tooley then pulled away again to win the match 21 - 14.

LADIES HANDICAP SINGLES – MERCEDES NEILSON 25 vs. PAT FISHER 8

In the Ladies Handicap singles Pat Fisher was receiving three shots from Mercedes Neilson. After three ends the score was three all, but Neilson then won the next six ends to lead 14 - 3. Neilson then took seven of the last eleven ends to win the game 25 - 8.

LADIES DRAWN PAIRS COMPETITION – FRANCES DOWNING & MARIE HOWLETT 6 PTS

Team A - Frances Downing & Marie Howlett, Team B - Lis Campling & Alison Woolerton, Team C - Rosemary Manning & Joy Smith

Team D - Steph Baverstock & Marion Hutton, Team E - Marilyn Burwell & Judy Mellor, Team F - Maureen Pembroke & Pat Fisher.

The competition was played over three sessions with each team playing three games of eight ends. In the first session there were wins for teams A and F while teams C and D drew. In the second session there were wins for teams A, C and E. This put team A in the lead with four points closely followed by team C on three points. In the final session there were wins for teams B and D and team A also won their last game to win the competition.

Runners-up: Steph Baverstock & Marion Hutton 3 points (minus five shots)

Third place: Rosemary Manning & Joy Smith 3 points (minus 14 shots)
